Abstract	美国传教士明恩溥在中国山东农村居住多年，《中国人的特性》是他在与中国社会各阶层的接触过程中体察中国人的生活习俗及思想心态之作，该书集中反映了作者对中国人的认识和看法。本文依次分析明恩溥在文本中展示的中国人的人际交往、中国人的价值观念和行为方式、中国的现实与需要，还原作者对中国人形象的塑造，并探讨形象背后的意义结构原则。
Other Abstract	Ming Enpu didn't write his masterpiece, Chinese Characteristics, until he lived in the countryside of Shandong Province for years and observed the Chinese living customs, manners and mind. His understanding of Chinese is perfectly showed in this book. The paper attempts at analysing the image of Chinese from perspectives of the means of interpersonal communication of Chinese, the value and manners of Chinese, the needs and fact of China society, in order to presents the image of Chinese in the author's pen and discusses why the image is formed.
