| Abstract | 《帕梅拉》与《简·爱》这两部英国小说都是以女性为主人公，18世纪的帕梅拉因自己对女德的恪守被时人奉为女性的楷模，19世纪的简·爱也因自己的叛逆被认为是当时日益高涨的女权意识在文学中的代言人。然而，不管是淑女帕梅拉，还是叛逆女性简·爱，两人实际上都没有摆脱女性被限制甚至是被囚禁的命运，而且，两人不同的人生经历和对女性自我的不同认知，从不同侧面反映了当时的女性经验和性别权力机制，这一点，对理解两部作品及其女性主人公形象有着重要意义。
因此，本论文从“女性囚禁”主题入手，试着分析《帕梅拉》与《简·爱》中的“女性囚禁”在建构女性身份和意识方面的意义。本文以比较文学主题学与女性主义文学批评为基础，结合历史、社会与文化研究，分析探讨英国文学“女性囚禁”主题从18世纪中叶到19世纪中叶的发展与演变，并尝试描述西方不同历史时期内性别权力机制的运作模式，及其对女性身份建构与女性命运的影响，最终，在这一大背景之下，尝试做出对《帕梅拉》和《简·爱》这两部经典文学作品的新的阐释和理解。 |
| Other Abstract | Pamela and Jane Eyre are two English novels featuring female character, Pamela was took as a model of women in 18 century because she abided strictly by women’s virtue, and Jane Eyre was seemed as spokesperson of feminism in 19 century as her rebellion. Whether gentlewomen like Pamela or rebellious women like Jane, they both didn’t got rid of the destiny of women’s captivity, and the different life experiences and perceptions of female self of the two protagonist reflect the experience of women and gender power mechanism in different sides in that time, which is important to understand the two works and the female protagonists.
Therefore, this thesis, which is based on the description of “women’s captivity” theme, tries to analyze the significance of the theme in constructing female identity and consciousness in the two works. The thesis adopts two main methods which are the Thematic Study of Comparative Literature and Feminist Criticism, combining with the historical, social and cultural study, trying to analyze the development and evolution of the women’s captivity subject in English literature from the middle of the 18th century to the middle of the 19th century, and attempting to describe the different mode of gender power mechanism and it’s influence on the construction of female identity and women fate in different period, and finally trying to make a new interpretation and understanding of the two classic works in the context above. |
